Attack of the idea killers

BRAINSTORMING IS A collaborative idea-generation process that (theoretically) gets great results. Yet it takes only a couple of bad seeds to turn these sessions into unpleasant and unproductive nightmares. Remi and SpringsComm member, Timothy; say every company has its share of underminers and identify the most common offenders. See how many of these troublesome types you recognize.

Attention vampires. They always want to stand out and be the center of attention. They can smother a brainstorming session by dominating the conversation, excessively pushing their ideas and ultimately sucking the life out of the whole group.

Dictators. They love every idea, as long as it’s theirs. These totalitarians feel they are the only ones with good ideas, or good taste, for that matter. Many bosses unknowingly become dictators in meetings (not on purposes, but their role in the company makes it too easy).

Idea assassins. These seasoned killers love to shoot down ideas-anyone’s and everyone’s. Under the pretense of being constructive, they find flaws, poke holes and pick apart promising ideas until they bleed to death.

Obstructionists. To them, nothing is simple or easy. They overcomplicate conversations and procedures and bring up extraneous facts or considerations that derail the flow of the group. Obstructionists over think, over speak and single-handedly dead-end otherwise promising sessions.

Social loafers. These are the people who show up for a brainstorming session but rarely participate in the generation of new ideas in a meaningful way or contribute much of substance. They usually sit back, appearing bored or aloof, and let others do the heavy lifting.

Wet blankets. These are the pessimists who have the unique ability to instantly dampen the enthusiasm level of a session by being discouraging and depressing, and the majority of their comments don’t hold water.

Three Myths About Love - by Engr. Eyitemi Emmanuel

Three Myths About Love Love is an essential part of life. Everyone dreams of it. Everyone strives for it. And we overthink it, imagining what an ideal love should be in a fictional perfect world. Such a cult feeling, of course, is not complete without myths. Specifically: 1. Each of us has our soul mate in life. There is a common myth among people, especially women. When the creator the human, they divided them into two halves-making one half a woman, the other half a man. Then the Creator scattered the halves around the world. Since then, every person in the world has their soul mate. The one – the only one intended for you makes all the others not for you. If you don’t have a great relationship with your partner, your answer is simple: They are not the person destined for me. All responsibility is shifted to chance, to fate, to the stars, higher or darker forces. Besides, your other half, too, walks the world alone, without you. After all, it would help if you found them. Big news. There are no predestined halves. Just as you cannot be the best when starting into a new sport, a perfect relationship also needs time. It begins with creating a happy relationship with the person. This responsibility lies on both of you. Then, only love and respect for each other, over the years, despite the obstacles encountered, can be the impetus that will lead to the feeling that you have a second half next to you. 2. Love happens at first sight It is not entirely true. Yes, from the first meeting, a person can arouse interest, sympathy, and a desire to get closer. But if we talk about a deep, balanced feeling based on common goals, interests, and values, then one look at a person is not enough to form these. To love your partner, you have to get to know them a little better. When a man and a woman meet for the first time, they might not feel for each other. In communication, they discover more and more positive qualities in each other. Thus love arises. It may happen the other way around too. One may fall in love at first sight, with a sense of falling into one’s soul. Then it turns out they are entirely different people who have nothing in common. A relationship with that partner is no longer desired. You can evaluate your feelings and tell if there was love at first sight after a certain period. Therefore, always give time and a chance to find love. 3. Love passes with time It is not entirely true. A relationship with that partner is no longer desired. You can evaluate your feelings and tell if there was love at first sight after a certain period. Therefore, always give time and a chance to find love. It depends on what you mean by love. If it is exclusively sexual desire, then yes, it can fade over the years. Not in the sense that you will no longer want to have sex with your partner, but you may stop going crazy at the very thought of them. Love has many components, it’s more than sexual attraction. It’s also a mutual heartfelt attachment to each other. It’s the perception of the other person as a part of themselves. It’s the desire to take care of each other. In any case, attempts to determine the life span of these feelings are meaningless. Each love story is individual and has its term. There is no single formula for calculating the duration of love. It’s mostly up to us. Clinging to myths and a particular image is more likely to make you miss real magic. Love is like a fingerprint – unique in everyone. The only way to find out its shape is by doing it in real life instead of written stories. Eyitemi

TESTIMONIAL OF A SUCCESSFUL MARKETER

“My name is Biodun Ibukun, when I get to a prospective customer, I say, “Good morning sir, How is business? I am in your area today for a marketing company “Springs Communications”. It is less than half the market price. The last guy bought three pieces because he saw it from our TV adverts for #2,450, original price is #3,000 but because of the ongoing promotion, it is just #1,500. Check it out.” Immediately I say “check it out” I will stretch the product to the prospective buyer to examine. If he take it from me, I continue with the pitching but if he resist to hold the product,  psychologically, he is not interested to buy. I don’t waste my time with this type of people. When I am talking to them, I make eye to eye contact. This is very important for me.
Firstly, it shows that I am sincere with what I am saying about the product, secondly, in some cases, the buyer may feel shy to say no than to buy. And when leaving them, I say “bye bye, have a nice day” even if they don’t buy. Occasionally, they change their minds, call me back and pick one or two pieces. This is due to my polite attitude on every prospective buyer.“

The marketer is now an employer of 15 other marketers on commission.
